Understand payments, invoice balances and advances
Check how a receipt or payment relates to outstanding invoices.

WHERE TO GO
Money and party ledger → invoice / aging reports
Step by step
Record the payment against the correct party and on its actual date.
Open the party ledger to confirm the full amount.
Check outstanding invoices and the relevant aging report.
Compare invoice dates with the payment date; later-dated invoices are not eligible for earlier payments under the allocation rule.
If you later change or cancel an invoice, review the resulting allocation or advance before entering any replacement payment.
What to check
- The party balance reflects the money movement without duplicate payment entries.
Things to know
- Eligible payments are allocated by due date, then document date and document number. There is no manual bill-allocation picker in Money.
- For mixed customer/supplier accounts, confirm both sides of the balance; do not infer allocation from a typed description.
